Happy New Year! I hope 2020 will bring everything that’s good in your lives!
As some of you may have seen, 2020 brought something new here. Fork & Fantasy now has a YouTube channel that will focus on travel and food! Exciting right? I think so. If you wanna take a look at it (and you should) click -HERE-
The very first video on there is all about Moncton, New Brunswick in Canada.
Now, onto today’s post.
Last weekend, I went to a new place downtown Fredericton for lunch and I thought I should review it because it was phenomenal!
Join me at Sphinx Restaurant!
First of all, you can find Sphinx at 526, Queen Street, Downtown Fredericton.
Fredericton, for those of you unfamiliar with it, is the capital of the Province of New Brunswick in Canada! This is the city closest to where I live.
Now for the actual restaurant, the decor inside is absolutely gorgeous! I’m talking gold walls gorgeous! There are also quite a few areas that are a little more intimate thanks to partitions. We were in the main area, which was fine since the place wasn’t too busy for lunch.
Now the menu. The menu is mostly Middle Eastern, but with a few cool quirks. We looked at the menu for a while because we noticed that they also had breakfast, which sounded awesome.
Ultimately, we decided to share two main courses and see.
Turns out, they were running a promotion (they still are) that if you order a main, you get a free lentil soup. Score! I love lentil soup!
This one was very thick and very savory. It came with fried pitas on the side which were going very well with the soup. The portion of soup was pretty big as well. Which may or may not explain why we both left with packed leftovers from our mains!
Now for our main courses, we ordered the Fattah Chicken Shawarma and the Béchamel Pasta. While both were excellent, I must say that the Fattah Chicken holds my heart forever. Soooo good. The spices were amazing, the garlic sauce (Was it toum? I’m not sure…) was beyond amazing. Seriously, I could have filled a pool with the sauce and lapped around for hours. The rice and the chicken were seasoned to perfection, I cannot oversell this dish enough!
See how they automatically bring over extra sauce? Yeah, they know that stuff is gold!
Now, for the Béchamel Pasta, it was a bit rich for me. It had pasta, seasoned ground beef, a ton of creamy béchamel sauce and veggies. My friend Kim loved it. I thought it was good, but I kept reaching for the chicken. The top was gloriously bubbling when it got to the table, and I obviously proceeded to burn my mouth. Eat carefully!
If you like heavy and rich comfort food though, this will be your heaven on Earth.
The portions were huge so we ended up packing away half of each dish, which is just fine by me because it made for an excellent lunch the next day!
We were both too full and had to forgo dessert, but from what I’ve heard, they have excellent ones.
If you are in the Fredericton area and like Middle Eastern food, I urge you to come and try this place! Our bills were about $20-$25 each, which is a bit on the pricier side for lunch but more than reasonable for dinner!
Sphinx Restaurant will also be participating in the ‘Dine Around Freddy’ event taking place in Fredericton from January 16th to February 2nd, 2020. Sounds to me like it’s the perfect time to try it!
You can check out the ‘Dine Around Freddy’ website – HERE – This awesome event is partnering with a lot of local restaurants to offer a three courses meal for $31, that’s a price that’s tough to beat!
If you are craving Shawarma already and just can’t wait to make it to Sphinx, you can try my Beef Shawarma Flatbread to tide you over!
And on that note, I will talk to you, next time!
